Abundant Living
I will of course begin here again with the key reference verse for this ongoing study. Romans 12:2. to me is a great place to begin a life fitting for God. In past messages here I have discussed part one of this verse which refers to conformation to this world. Right now I am discussing part two of this verse which refers to being transformed by the renewing of the mind. And it will not be much longer until we move on to the third part of this verse which will hopefully shed some light of how to determine God’s perfect will for our lives.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
I have been here choosing some characteristics of Jesus and hopefully showing some of the character we should be applying to our daily lives as we transform to become more like Him. Jesus did more than save us from death of sin, He also gave us the guidance to live our lives in abundance.
John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
Our enemy, the devil, Satan , Lucifer or whatever you choose to call him is a thief and a liar. Jesus made this perfectly clear in the following scripture:
John 8:42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 “Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 “But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 “Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 “He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”
The devil has been a thief and a liar from the beginning. The lies he told and the life he stole from Adam and Eve in the beginning he still uses today. As we grow from children to adults we are like sponges, we absorb information and knowledge from everything around us. We learn from education in school, we learn from life around us, we learn from the media, we learn even as we grow from early adult life to our old age. Whether directly or through unseen, unknown resources, the father of lies is spreading his lies throughout or lives. Jesus had other names by which He had called the devil, including “Prince of this world”, “Prince of the power of the air” and he has even been described as “being disguised as an angel of light.” It does not take long to look around you to see the prince the majority of the world follows. it does not take long either to look at the television or listen to the radio or the music today to the see or hear the lies which lead to self destruction. We live in a world today filled with unhappiness in marriage, depression, violence, and spiritual uncertainty.
John 3:17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 “But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
Jesus did not come to condemn us. He came to save what was lost. He came to give light to a dark world. And He came give life not take it away. Jesus lived His life in such a way to give us a view of what is holy, what is like to have no worries, and most of all how to live through faith. Everyday of His life He knew what lay ahead of Him but He did not worry, fore His Faith in God carried Him through each day. Mathew 4:1-11 Even after 40 days in the wilderness, the devil came to tempt Jesus. The Faith Jesus showed in His Father in Heaven, proved God would supply all the power and needs more so than the devil could offer. With one thing different and that is life not death.

The apostle Paul wrote about being content in all situations of life:
*NIV Philippians 4:11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.
When Saul (latter changed to Paul) was an important person in the community of the religious elite of the Jewish counsel he knew the life of plenty of abundance of earthly possessions. Not only there as a member of the Jewish council, Saul was also a Roman citizen as well. Saul lacked nothing according to the view of the world. He was rewarded richly for the taking of Christian prisoners to be tortured as slaves or used as amusement in the coliseums or games of violence. One day Saul found the true meaning of richness on a journey which opened his eyes. Saul was made blind so Paul could see. Paul’s eyes were opened to the light of life found in Christ Jesus. Later on throughout his life he also found at times what it is to be in need. But He still found the secret to abundance. Paul became ill, he was held prisoner more that once, he was ship wrecked, mocked and tortured at times. But he still held on to the Faith Jesus had shown him. Paul found a secret which he shared with all.
We always think of the pain and suffering Paul lived or even the physically terrible way he died. We over look the great and wonderful things he witnessed in his new life as Paul. Throughout the bible people of faith lived through the abundant riches of Gods love. Job had, lost all but gained even more. David a shepherd boy became king. Solomon’s knowledge and wisdom led him to become the riches king of all times. True life and riches come from God. I know it is hard especially in today’s world and times to have eyes opened to light. To be able to see with the light Christ has brought us. I know it is difficult to see past the lies of the ruler of this world and darkness he tries to keep you under.
But there is light and a secret. The light Jesus has shown upon us through Him. And of course the secret Paul found, that I will share.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
And I will leave you with one more note of Gods abundance from the Apostle Paul
Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
In closing I would like to say, that it is my hopes and prayers that all who read this to please take this into account and test these words to the words of God. Allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide in all of your studies of Gods word. And please ask of and always remember, to have Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
