I will of course begin here again with the key reference verse for this ongoing study. Romans 12:2. to me is a great place to begin a life fitting for God. In past messages here I have discussed part one of this verse which refers to conformation to this world. Right now I am discussing part two of this verse which refers to being transformed by the renewing of the mind. And it will not be much longer until we move on to the third part of this verse which will hopefully shed some light of how to determine God’s perfect will for our lives.

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I have been here choosing some characteristics of Jesus and hopefully showing some of the character we should be applying to our daily lives as we transform to become more like Him. Jesus did more than save us from death of sin, He also gave us the guidance to live our lives in abundance.

John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Our enemy, the devil, Satan , Lucifer or whatever you choose to call him is a thief and a liar. Jesus made this perfectly clear in the following scripture:

John 8:42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 “Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 “But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 “Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? 47 “He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

The devil has been a thief and a liar from the beginning. The lies he told and the life he stole from Adam and Eve in the beginning he still uses today. As we grow from children to adults we are like sponges, we absorb information and knowledge from everything around us. We learn from education in school, we learn from life around us, we learn from the media, we learn even as we grow from early adult life to our old age. Whether directly or through unseen, unknown resources, the father of lies is spreading his lies throughout or lives. Jesus had other names by which He had called the devil, including “Prince of this world”, “Prince of the power of the air” and he has even been described as “being disguised as an angel of light.” It does not take long to look around you to see the prince the majority of the world follows. it does not take long either to look at the television or listen to the radio or the music today to the see or hear the lies which lead to self destruction. We live in a world today filled with unhappiness in marriage, depression, violence, and spiritual uncertainty.

John 3:17 “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 “And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 “For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 “But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

Jesus did not come to condemn us. He came to save what was lost. He came to give light to a dark world. And He came give life not take it away. Jesus lived His life in such a way to give us a view of what is holy, what is like to have no worries, and most of all how to live through faith. Everyday of His life He knew what lay ahead of Him but He did not worry, fore His Faith in God carried Him through each day. Mathew 4:1-11 Even after 40 days in the wilderness, the devil came to tempt Jesus. The Faith Jesus showed in His Father in Heaven, proved God would supply all the power and needs more so than the devil could offer. With one thing different and that is life not death.

The apostle Paul wrote about being content in all situations of life:

I know it is hard especially in today’s world and times to have eyes opened to light. To be able to see with the light Christ has brought us. I know it is difficult to see past the lies of the ruler of this world and darkness he tries to keep you under.

But there is light and a secret. The light Jesus has shown upon us through Him. And of course the secret Paul found, that I will share.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

And I will leave you with one more note of Gods abundance from the Apostle Paul

Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Easter Sunday like Christmas has been set aside on the calendar year as a day of remembrance of Jesus Christ. Christmas is the day set aside in which the world celebrates the birth of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Easter Sunday however is celebrated as the day Jesus did the absolute impossible. He was raised and walked out of the grave, the most miraculous miracle Christ had done. From creation to Immaculate Conception, a life teaching and preparing for His Divine status to show the world He is truly the Son of God.
From death to resurrection Jesus had taken possession the keys of both Heaven and hell.

Revelation 1:18 “I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

 He was given His place at the right hand of God.

Hebrews 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

The resurrection of Christ had been the focus of the purpose of the life of Jesus. The salvation from the saving Grace had been the plan of God from the beginning of the world. Before God had created Adam sin had entered the world through Lucifer. Before Adam was created God had already put His plan of salvation into place through the life of Jesus. God knew Lucifer would be hard for mankind to resist and God wanted people who would live for Him and worship Him in Spirit and Truth.

If you are reading this for the first time, I thank you. If you are here for a return, I thank you too. If you are here as the later you may think I am breaking away from my on going study of:

The answer to this is no we are not. I just feel this upcoming Easter season is the right time to discuss what is meant by being “Crucified with Christ”. To be crucified with Christ is very important to be able to accept and be transformed to the mind of Christ. We are still discussing the second part of this key scripture: “but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. I will use this opportunity to discuss how we can be crucified and resurrected with Christ in our daily lives for now and all eternity. The importance of your crucifixion and resurrection begins in a conversation Jesus had with Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

What Nicodemus could not understand Jesus portrayed to us with His Life. Jesus mentioned on several occasions as to how you must deny yourself, take up your own cross and follow Him. He even went on to say that if you want to find your life you must loose it. He was not meaning for you take your own life and be placed six feet under. What He was meaning was that crucifixion was degrading painful death that was perfectly fitting for the sin and death within your own life. Crucifixion was the kind of death that all sin and destruction needed in order to be completely destroyed from your life.

Resurrection is a word kind of like the words “transformed and renewed” which I have defined as “to change”. But resurrection is to change from a state of death. This is the rebirth Jesus was explaining to Nicodemus, the rebirth through resurrection. From the beginning of Adam’s first sin we have inherited the sinful nature of the spirit of death. Jesus conquered this spirit and has offered to each of us the chance to join Him in spiritual crucifixion and be joined with Him though the spirit in resurrection.

Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. 11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

So as I have mentioned it was his plan from the beginning we would be joined with God through the saving salvation of Jesus. His death and resurrection was a task that was to the destiny of Christ so that by His name we shall all be saved. A task that Jesus as human had asked God to spare Him from, but the divine Son of God knew there could be no other way. Christ took the sins of you and I and all the rest of the world and carried them upon His body all the way to the cross and unto death.

Something really amazing, wonderful and truly miraculous happened early one morning. Women who went to visit the tomb of Jesus instead of seeing a closed tomb what they had saw was the stone that had sealed the tomb had been rolled away. They met an angel who told them Jesus was not there for He has risen.

Still one thing really amazing:
Not only did He rise from the grave with the keys of death and Hades in His hands. He also left our sins where they belong, locked within the gates of Hades.

I am beginning this study from the first segment of our main beginning scripture reference.

“Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God”.

In going along with the pattern of this world we tend to very easily fall into the oldest trick in the devil’s arsenal.
                                                          
                                                          !! IT IS ALL ABOUT ME!!

From the very first temptation from the devil to Eve, it has been just that. Eve saw that the fruit was pleasing to the eye; it would be good for taste and to be able to give the power of knowledge to rule over her life and the life of others.

Mathew chapter 4 speaks of how Jesus too was tempted in the same manners:

“Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And     when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: ‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’ and, ‘In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’ ” 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God.’ ” 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” 11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”

Jesus was tempted into taking care of “ME”. He was tempted to fill His belly through supernatural means, tempted to test God by determining His own fate, and tempted to rule over the world by following evil selfishness.  Jesus had the strength to stand for His mission of life by using the very words of God. Even whenever the devil would quote the scriptures to Him, Jesus still rebuked Him by the very words of God.

All too often here within our own personal lives we too fall prey to the devil’s weapons of mass destruction. His fiery darts as the Apostle Paul put it. But still and first most is the weapon of selfishness or the placing of ones self before others. Adam and Eve easily fell as prey to this weapon which makes it all too easy for us to do the same. It is in our nature.

Generally speaking inside, each of us to the desire to look out for number one, “ME”. We get hungry for what looks good and has sweet taste. We want to live off the fat of the land. And we have an almost unquenchable desire to rule over others. We all like sleek smooth looking sports cars. Toys like boats, atv’s.,  sports cars and other toys to either fill ourselves with enjoyment. We, especially Americans push ourselves to the extremes to fulfill the “American dream”.

According to the scriptures of curses God gave to all who sinned in the Garden of Eden.

Genesis 3:14 So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, You are cursed more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you shall go, And you shall eat dust All the days of your life. 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” 16 To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; In pain you shall bring forth children; Your desire shall be for your husband, And he shall rule over you.” 17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. 18 Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. 19 In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”

Particularly notice verse 16”…. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” This line of scripture causes a conflict between man and woman. A woman will “desire” her husband. For a man this sounds like a good thing, right?  For a woman to want no one but her husband, to be ruled over by him, yes? The perfect example of male chauvinism from the very word of God, right? Well the answers to these questions are often misinterpreted.
 
 Let’s start with the word used here for “desire”. We think of desire in today’s terminology like, “I desire my wife because she is so beautiful. The only other time, the Hebrew word used here which translate, is used is in the next chapter of Genesis. The word “desire” is used as a translated word in several other verses of scripture but these are the only two times the particular Hebrew word is used.

Genesis 4:7 “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”

Here the word “desire” is described as a controlling word as you can see, the “desire” for sin to control you. As sin is to “desire-control” over you, a wife will “desire –control” over her husband.

This causes an inner conflict between man and woman. Because in the line of scripture it says that “he will rule over you”. Here you have a woman taking control and a man being a ruler and neither wanting to give. God’s plan for a marriage is the same as it was form the beginning for a husband and wife to be one and suitable help mates for each other. Read Ephesians chapter 5 for more of a heavenly marriage. I will cover this more in detail, in time to come. 

In closing I would like to point out one more important aspect to these few verses. In Gen. 4:7 when it speaks of sin’s desire is for you, just remember what is said right afterwards. “…but you should rule over it”.
