Beginning Renewal (Introduction)
Printer Friendly Version
I hope all has been going well for whoever has the opportunity to read our column. This is a new opportunity for me to be able to spread the name of Christ and to be able to help be somewhat of a guiding light for others. Also I would be the first to admit that I too am open to the need for a guiding light within my life and the ministry the Lord has placed before me. My mind is refreshed from time to time by the Lord of just one simple verse of scripture in which I started several Sunday morning messages with. One verse that I feel I just barely scratched the surface with trying to find the approach to transformation.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
I started at least 2 months of Sunday morning studies with this one verse. It is difficult in this world today not to fall into conformity. There are just so many cool and seemingly fun things to do and be participants within the world in which we are living. Not only is peer pressure a pulling issue within our children’s lives but for us as adults and parents as well. At times we find ourselves trying to measure ourselves to the world’s standards but not to the standards of the world in which our true citizenship belongs. Like the apostle Paul who learned his citizenship was in the Kingdom of Heaven with his Lord Jesus Christ. Even though he lived and walked the earth, were a Jewish citizen and a Roman citizen as well. He learned his true citizenship was in Heaven and his citizenships to these other nations were just something to deal with. Paul learned through the renewing of the mind not to dwell upon the troubles of this world whether in need or with plenty. Even though He wanted his days here to over he knew he had to wait patiently for the Lord to continue the labors He had for Paul to do.
Paul found by the renewing of his mind towards the mind of Christ was the not only the beginning but the also the growing into what Jesus meaning when He told Nicodemus “you must be born again.” True you can not reenter your mother’s womb but you can be reborn by the renewing of your mind. Not a mind set on earthly things but beyond the scope of things seen in the earthly realm. As I mentioned last week we are living in the Kingdom of God even now in this present time. A kingdom in which Christ is king and to which our true citizenship belongs.
Over the next few weeks I feel as if I will try to carry on with topic of a transformation by the renewing of the mind.
In closing I would like to say, that it is my hopes and prayers that all who read this to please take this into account and test these words to the words of God. Allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide in all of your studies of Gods word. And please ask of and always remember, to have Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior
Thank you and God Bless,
Tommy Harmon
